These 6 Towns Will Drag Your Pumpkin Spice-Lovin' Soul Into October

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but I’m done with summer. The news is bleak, the heat is personal, and if one more “hot girl walk” ends in a heat advisory, I’m putting myself into seasonal early access.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but I’m done with summer. The news is bleak, the heat is personal, and if one more “hot girl walk” ends in a heat advisory, I’m putting myself into seasonal early access.

So yeah, my brain is already in October. I’m craving haunted hotels, fog machines, and a reason to wear boots without sweating through my soul. And guess what? So is your audience.

They’re over the sunshine. They want spooky season. And if your destination isn’t giving them a reason to lean in early, someone else will.

Here are 6 small-but-terrifyingly-good destinations that aren’t waiting for your fall strategy to catch up. They’ve already summoned the spirits. You better light your candle and keep up. Tagged ya'll (who had a LI presence), lmk if I missed one!

👻 Bisbee, Arizona Looks like an old mining town, feels like a haunted art school dropout. Ghost tours, haunted hotels, and desert witch energy for days. Think “American Horror Story” meets vintage cowgirl chic.

🪓 Fall River, Massachusetts Lizzie Borden took an axe and now the whole town takes it to your comfort zone. The B&B is her actual house. Book a stay if you like breakfast with a side of unsolved murder.

🦇 Eureka Springs, Arkansas This place leans into its ghosts like it’s trying to win an Oscar. The Crescent Hotel is terrifying in the best way, and the fog here doesn’t just roll in—it performs. Main Street Eureka Springs

💀 Manitou Springs, Colorado Haunted hot springs, Victorian architecture, and enough ghost stories to start your own podcast. Fall here feels cinematic, with fewer influencers and more full-body chills. City of Manitou Springs

🎩 Sleepy Hollow, New York The real one. The one with actual lantern-lit graveyards and legends older than your brand strategy. Every year, people forget how iconic it is. Don’t be one of them.

🧠 Happy Valley, Pennsylvania Cute name, creepy "Fall time" undercurrent. Ghost tours in Bellefonte. Haunted libraries at Penn State. A Halloween parade that's older than most tourism boards. It’s giving cozy horror with a side of cider. The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau

Summer is loud. Fall is loyal. Start planting those spooky seeds now, or miss the whole pumpkin.

Want to start marketing spooky season now without getting dragged into a “but it’s still summer” meeting?

Here’s how:

  • Swap “October” for “Offbeat Fall.” Suddenly it’s strategy, not sorcery.

  • Pitch it as a moodboard, not a mandate. “Just testing tone” = “I’m planting pumpkins while you panic.”

  • Blame the algorithm. “The data shows people are searching haunted getaways earlier every year.” (Which they are. I checked.)

  • Call it a trend preview. Everyone loves to be first. Especially your boss.

  • Or just say what I say: If we wait for permission, we’ll miss the whole damn vibe.

Because if your audience is already haunting Pinterest boards and booking October Airbnbs, then your content should follow them into the fog.

Start now. Make it spooky. And don’t ask for approval from someone who still thinks corn mazes are enough.
