Three signals hiding inside this year’s trend report.

Most tourism reports try very hard to convince us travel decisions are familiar.

Family travel. Value seekers. Flexible bookings. Wellness. Nothing wrong with it. Just… familiar.

And then I read the 2026 Booking.com travel predictions report and realized… yeah, no. We’re fully in our feelings now.

People are letting astrology influence trips. They’re booking fantasy-style escapes. They’re traveling back to places tied to old memories just to feel something familiar again.

And honestly? None of this surprised me.

Because when the world feels loud, uncertain, and kinda exhausting, people don’t just want new experiences. They want meaning. Comfort. Connection. A version of themselves that feels a little more whole.

Here are three signals that I can't stop thinking about.

Signal #1: People Want Permission to Trust Their Gut

(Destined-ations)

Nearly half of travelers said they’d reconsider a trip if a spiritual guide told them the timing wasn’t right.

Easy joke here. But this isn’t really about astrology.

It’s about reassurance.

People want confirmation they’re making the right choice in a moment where everything feels uncertain.

Is this you?

  • You’ve said “the timing just doesn’t feel right.”

  • You’ve delayed a trip because the vibe felt off.

  • Logic matters… but you trust your instincts more.

Signal #2: Travel Is Becoming Identity Play

(Romantasy Retreats)

Fantasy-themed or role-play retreats are growing — people stepping into story-driven experiences instead of just sightseeing.

Translation: escapism got more intentional.

People don’t just want to leave home. They want to try on a different version of themselves for a while.

Is this you?

  • You choose trips based on mood more than destination.

  • You want experiences that feel cinematic or immersive.

  • You’ve said “I just want to disappear somewhere for a minute.”

Signal #3: Nostalgia Is Driving Movement

(PastPorts)

Travelers are using tech to track down where old photos were taken… and going back.

This one hit me.

Because it means people aren’t always chasing new experiences. Sometimes they’re trying to reconnect with who they were when that moment happened.

Is this you?

  • You’ve looked at an old photo and felt a pull.

  • You’ve revisited a place because of how it made you feel, not what there was to do.

  • You travel for memory, not novelty.

What this actually means

Travel isn’t becoming irrational. It’s becoming human.

The industry spent years marketing destinations like products. Travelers are treating them like emotional experiences.

And the destinations that understand that shift first? They’re going to feel different before they ever look different.

I’m Jenn Barbee. Out here watching the pattern while everyone chases the trend.
